LED strip dimmers work via the PWM principle (Puls Width Modulation) with which the LEDs are switched on and off very quickly with a variable 'off' time. This is not visible to you, while the LEDs do dim back perfectly. Some appliances are connected directly to 230V, but most require a separate power supply.
